Tips for creating your own website

There's a lot to think about when getting started with your website. Here are some quick tips on what you can start thinking about.

There’s a lot to think about when you’re getting started with your own website. Not only does the website need to function technically, but it also needs to be designed for mobile adaptation, user-friendliness and appearance. Today, WordPress is the world’s most widely used website solution and is used on ¼ of all websites. Sveum Design has been creating websites for large and small businesses in Gjøvik and throughout Norway for many years and has created a few short tips you should consider when starting work.

  1. Key message. The very first thing you should do is find out what your main message is with your website. Your readers don’t want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what your website is about, so if it doesn’t permeate the entire website, they’ll quickly move on to something else. The main message shapes how the rest of the website should behave. If you’re creating a website for yourself, you can choose a design and an expression that also has a more personal touch. But if you’re creating a website for your business, you need to make sure you look professional and proper.
  2. Choosing a website platform. I currently work mostly with WordPress. WordPress is a good solution that is constantly updated in line with Google’s latest changes and the solution is easy to use and can be expanded to meet your specific needs. So if you’re new to the game, WordPress might be a good solution for you. In addition, there are countless instructional videos online and step-by-step instructions for most problems you may encounter.
  3. Create a sitemap. A website needs to be structured, and figuring out what information you want to have on your website will go a long way. A keyword overview of the themes and menu buttons you want to include is a good start.
  4. Choose your design or template. In most website solutions, there is a great deal of flexibility in terms of design. If you’re completely new to the world of programming, there can be a lot to get to grips with. Remember to make sure that the template you choose can be used across all devices. We’re spending more and more time on our mobiles, and a good mobile solution is just as important as a nice look on a PC screen.
  5. Enter content. The content is probably what’s going to take you the most time. Remember to get to the point quickly in your texts, use good images with captions and captions and use different keywords throughout the text. Take the checklist for blog posts with you.
