– Our assignments have increased

After using Sveum Design for most of our projects, our assignments have increased. We are very satisfied with the entire process with them. They respond quickly and we can rely on them. The last thing they did for us was to create a chat for us. This is to make it easier for customers and temps to get in touch with us. After exactly 5 minutes we got questions in. They have and developed our logo as well as developed our brilliant website. All brochures and also made by Sveum Design. Everything is produced by them and we are delighted with the result of everything!

– I look forward to a continued collaboration

I am very pleased with the work you have done. There’s no doubt that we need to spend more time on marketing! After we got a new website and help with Facebook advertising, the number of applicants to the school has increased considerably, and we are more visible to new students. I look forward to a continued collaboration with you that can help give a boost and a positive momentum for the Norwegian School of Interior Design in Gjøvik.

– Recommended for anyone who needs a website

We received a quote for the production of a website for Borgund Hyttesenter & Camping by e-mail from Sveum Design. We took advantage of this as the price for the website and subsequently for operating it was relatively reasonable. The website turned out very nice. We have received a lot of praise for it, and the number of cabins and space for caravans has increased sharply, so entering into an agreement with Sveum Design for the production and operation of the website was profitable for us.

The work was done quickly and the site was quickly up and running. We are very satisfied with the website and recommend more campsites and accommodation companies and anyone else who needs a website to contact Sveum Design as it is a professional and straightforward company to work with.

Hi

Sveum Design was started and is run by Kristine Sveum. Here’s the story of how it all started, how it’s gone along the way, and what the status is now.

Bitten by the bacillus

Little did I know when I programmed my first website at the age of 14 (in the year 2000) that this was exactly what I would do for a living later in life.

In the fall of 2014, I had a small anniversary of sorts. That’s when I reached the point where I’ve been doing web design for more than half my life. This fall, it was 14 years since I launched my own website in 2000, and after the first one, there was no stopping.

I was simply bitten by the bug.

Spent og stolt da jeg turte å satse på firmaet på fulltid.

Great inspiration from my cousin

Now I’m doing what I love most, which is using my creativity every single day. But it’s not just shaping and designing great products that drives me forward, I also love figuring out how things work – technically speaking.

I can’t tell you how many hours I spent watching what my cousin was doing on the computer. He really taught me everything about how a computer works – from changing frames, navigating dos, remote control of the computer via the Internet, formatting hard disks, ftp, domains, HTML, file formats to “you name it”.

Lærling på Oppland Arbeiderblad.

Varied experience in the media industry

I’ve gained varied experience in the media industry over the years, and I started programming websites in 9th grade. After that, things went as they should – one step at a time. I chose to study Media and Communication in upper secondary school, with internships in newspapers and advertising agencies.

After this, I had an apprenticeship as a media graphic designer at Oppland Arbeiderblad, which at the time was a media house with local TV, radio and online newspaper. I worked in all departments, as a TV reporter, the only person in charge at the radio station, and of course I had to try my hand at online editing, but it was mainly graphic design and layout that I worked with the most.

Certificate of qualification as a media graphic designer - where do we go from here?

We’re now in the fall of 2006, and I was 20 years old. I had a fresh apprenticeship certificate as a media graphic designer, and I had also completed my general studies qualification as a private student during my apprenticeship. I was already dreaming of starting my own business, but I wanted a bit more experience first.

I studied photography history and image communication, typography, information graphics, print production and information and publishing technology at Gjøvik University College. Until the new year 2007, I worked as a graphic designer at Oppland Arbeiderblad, and as a TV reporter at TV Norway’s local station, TV-Innlandet.

Jobbet i Oa på desken, samt på TV-innlandet og litt på Radio Gjøvik-Lillehammer under læringstiden.

To Ålesund

As fate would have it, I moved to Ålesund in January 2008. After an attempt to change professions and work as a shop assistant, I quickly found my way back to the design profession as a graphic designer at Sunnmørsposten.

In the fall of 2008, I felt like adding a little more knowledge and started at Volda University College. Media science, media production, web programming, photography, video production and sound production were on the curriculum.

Jobbet i Sunnmørsposten og studerte i Volda.

In the fall of 2008, the big thing happened, I finally started my own company!

In the video from 2019, I talk about how I got my first customer.

The agony of choice

But I didn’t quite dare to go full-time, so I worked in my own company alongside other jobs. Eventually I moved back to Gjøvik again. I got a job at Oppland Arbeiderblad, did a stint in technical support at Telenor and later got a job as a graphic designer and product photographer at Blush.no.

Then two children came along, so of course it was a good time to do a bit more schooling, and I ended up doing a full teacher training course as well. Although the teaching profession is exciting, the only thing I could think of was that I wanted to run my own business full time.

In January 2014, I had to choose. Should I apply for a teaching job and have a completely predictable everyday life, or should I follow my dream?

Valgets kvaler

Full-time company

I chose to follow my dream and devote all my working hours to the company.

In February 2014, I found a nice and tiny office in Gjøvik. I lived there for about 2 months before I decided that I wanted more space so that I could present my company in a proper way.

Kontorlandskap der jeg først hadde kontor.

Employees and freelancers

Eventually, I got some employees and connected with a bunch of freelancers. We ended up in Storgata in Gjøvik and had offices there for quite a while, before I was offered a permanent job in 2019 that I couldn’t refuse.

I was there until 2023, before the desire to run my own company became too great. Today, Sveum Design is a full-time business.

Bubbling over with energy!

I sat down to find out how much this means to me and what it will give me to run my own company. I found a lot of good words, but the most important ones were meaning and joy. Today, I’m simply bubbling over with energy!

The biggest trend in recent years is that we see that the development and demand for our services is constantly changing. We have to quickly adapt to the technology of web development, as well as staying on top of new marketing opportunities. Exciting, varied and challenging – all at the same time, but it’s so rewarding to see what we can achieve for our customers, and not least how you can challenge yourself.

Finally, I’d like to thank you so much for reading the whole story of my entrepreneurial dream and the path I’ve taken. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Sveum Design is entering an exciting time with new connections and customers. I hope to hear from you and that you get in touch so that we can help you with your web, graphic design and advertising projects.

Greetings Kristine
