The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) recently published a story stating that researchers believe that AI images of teenagers show a false and over-positive reality. This got me thinking about these types of images used in marketing. In short, research has been carried out into what kind of images are generated, and in the main, well-dressed, slim and beautiful people with perfect skin and extraordinarily beautiful hair are generated. This is obviously cause for concern, as it gives an unrealistic picture of reality. We’re already familiar with this from the fashion industry and ultra-thin models. Apart from the fact that people look so beautiful that they disturb our self-image and self-confidence, AI/KI images have several negative aspects – from a marketing perspective.

The unpolished reality

The trend in marketing today is real stories, real people, less polished reality. It’s not without reason that UGC marketing is a fast-growing industry. Here, the unpolished reality and the proximity to the ordinary man in the street is a prominent feature. AI/KI-generated images would be too unrealistic.

But can you really put two lines under the answer? No, absolutely not. You simply have to consider what is most appropriate in each individual situation. Do you want to sell a dream? Yes, then the otherworldly perfection can be right in the spotlight and be the best seller. So as with everything else, it depends. In many contexts, the possibility of computer-generated images can be an advantage. Just think how easy it is with product images where you can see the product from all angles, or illustrations that would be difficult to take a picture of. In home sales and new builds, you can visualize how a house and its furnishings might look. In other words, very useful.

Conclusion

For my part, I find it more interesting to look at real images. So if real images are available, I prefer them. I’ve tried many times to use AI images for use on the websites I create, but almost always end up browsing through image archives with real images. Often, customers want me to come and take pictures of the people and premises of the company. There’s something about the intimacy that is lost when the image is generated with the help of artificial intelligence. You kind of lose your soul along the way.

Wanted to update content yourself

When we first started Hundremeterskogen Nursery’s website, they were a little unsure whether they would be able to post news and photos themselves. This has gone really well, and now they’re well on their way to using the site, and are constantly adding new content. The logo was created back in 2015, and the first version of the website designed by Sveum Design was launched at the same time. “It’s nice to have a customer for so many years. In 2023, the time was ripe for an upgrade of the system behind it. A new design builder made it possible to better adapt to mobile and tablet devices – and with new software on the “back” of the website, everything will work optimally.

The logo was also to be used on the 17 May banner. Following a recommendation, a perforated PVC fabric was used to withstand wind and weather, while allowing air to pass through to counteract the sail function.

Basically, you can have as much or as little as you want on your website. In fact, you can have a completely blank website if you only want to have an email address associated with the domain. But most likely, you’re here to find answers to what is the recommended minimum content on the website, preferably with a company behind it. As a minimum, the website should have a name and contact information. Otherwise, the following can be recommended:

• Logo

The website should first and foremost comply with the requirements for universal design. Here are some guidelines in the form of where the logo and navigation/menu should be placed. Logo/name at the top, with the menu at the top right or left. This may vary on mobile, but on desktop we recommend placing the logo on the left and the menu on the right.

The text should be appropriately sized, i.e. not too big and not too small. This means that you often have to set different text sizes depending on the screen size. Speaking of screen size, the design should be flexible depending on the size of the user’s screen. You need to check how elements, text and images look on different screen sizes. The design must work on both large and small screens. Colors should be used consciously. Make sure to highlight important buttons and links with the same color. Less important elements should be toned down. Make sure that the colors also follow the visual profile. You should also bear in mind that the contrast must be good enough so that it is not difficult to read the text. You must also follow the rules of universal design. A thoughtful use of color will also enhance the impression and make you look professional.

Images and video

Images on the website should have the same style. Use neat images and ensure the correct file size/type after use. A poor image will detract from the overall impression, in which case you should consider dropping the image. The same applies to video. If the video is in poor technical condition (bad sound, poorly edited, blurred, incorrect lighting) then it should not be on the website. But if you have a good video, go for it!

Great freedom
