What exactly is ftp?

Ftp stands for "file transfer protocol". In short, it is a way of transferring files to a specific location on the internet (server).

This technology is most often used in connection with the production of websites, but also if you want to share large files with others. FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is a standard network protocol used to transfer files between computers over the internet or a local network. It allows users to upload, download, delete and manage files on a server. FTP usually requires authentication with a username and password, but there are also anonymous FTP servers that do not require login. The protocol often uses TCP port 21 for connection. There are also more secure variants of FTP, such as SFTP and FTPS, which encrypt data during transmission. There are several ways to log in to an FTP server. I have used an FTP program called Core FTP Lite. First you fill in the FTP address, then the username and password for the server. Once you’ve logged in, you get a window. There you can transfer/copy over the files you want.
